DWW 2017 Schedule

Monthly Meetings are usually a workshop/discussion or writing exercise on some aspect of the craft, and there’s always a social time over a cuppa.

8 February

  • Dialogue Workshop – Learn the essentials to creating effective dialogue.
  • Writing Exercise: Characters. We’ll write a paragraph introducing/ describing a detective inspector, either male or female. Or, alternatively, a chief suspect, male or female.

8 March

  • Critiquing Opportunity – bring in your short story entries for ‘Crime Theme

12 April

  • Open Group Discussion – share your personal writing projects
  • Writing Exercise – topic Flash Fiction
  • Short Stories for ‘Crime Theme’ are due this month.
  • DWW Subscription fee $35 is due this month
  • Word prompts for the next short story comp ‘Flash fiction word prompt’ to be chosen

10 May

  • Writer’s Block Workshop – exercises to get past writing roadbumps
  • Judge Jane Woodham Speaks and Winners of ‘Crime Theme’ short story comp announced

14 June

  • Critiquing Opportunity – bring in your short story entries for ‘Flash fiction word prompt’

12 July – CANCELLED DUE TO SNOW

  • Short Stories for ‘Flash fiction word prompt’ are due this month.

9 August

  • Flash fiction word prompt’ short story competition entries announced this session
  • Critiquing Opportunity – bring in your short story entries for ‘Science FictionTheme’
  • Committee for DWW 2018 will be picked this session

13 September

  • Guest Speaker: Diane Brown topic “Memoirs”
  • Plotting Workshop – learn methods for outlining a novel
  • Writing Exercise – topic: science fiction

11 October

  • Guest Speaker: Lousie Moulin, topic “Just Write”
  • Short Stories for ‘Science Fiction Theme’ are due this month.
  • Themes for the 2018 short story comps will be decided by the members.

8 November – Final Meeting of the Year

  • Judge Speaks and Winners of ‘Science Fiction Theme’ short story comp announced
  • End of Year Potluck shared supper
